I have always been attracted to trees as a source of inspiration in my art. Trees can be a great theme for your wedding or party. They represent life: sheltering us from the sun, producing oxygen, create homes, paper products, etc. And of course they are beautiful to look at. There are an estimated 100,000 species of trees, and the oldest tree is approximately 4,844 years old (the Great Basin Bristlecone Pine).
Art nouveau has always been one of my favorite art periods. I love the rich colors and repeating patterns (I studied textile design, so how could I not love this period in time?). So many artists made work during this period, and so many artists today are still inspired by this period that it is easy to find beautiful images to draw for inspiration. I have been thinking about why I have started this business, what the style of Sofia Invitations and Prints is, and who is my audience. For my own wedding, I wanted my invitations to be unique, reflect the “mood” of our wedding (a tropical and intimate wedding in Costa Rica), and reflect “us” as a couple. Seeing that my husband and I are artists, it was easiest for us to create our own invitations to our liking. I realize that not all couples have the time, energy, and skills to create their own wedding invitations. Therefore, I strive to make a line of invitations (and custom invitations) for all couples that have a personal vision, a unique style, and feel that most of the invitations they have viewed online or in stores are “just not right for us!”
