Vintage Inspiration: Stamps

Inspiration for a wedding theme, wedding invitations, or any stationary product can come from anything.  Vintage items of all sorts have great history, but also have beautiful designs.  Look at old postage stamps for inspiration….they have so many beautiful colors, compositions, and central imagery!  Take a look at these and think about how they could be applied to your wedding invitations or wedding theme.  Ask a wedding planner and a wedding invitation designer to help make your inspiration come to life.  All postage stamp images are courtesy of deposit photos:  www.deposit photos.com

My mission

I have been thinking about why I have started this business, what the style of Sofia Invitations and Prints is, and who is my audience.  For my own wedding, I wanted my invitations to be unique, reflect the “mood” of our wedding (a tropical and intimate wedding in Costa Rica), and reflect “us” as a couple.  Seeing that my husband and I are artists, it was easiest for us to create our own invitations to our liking.  I realize that not all couples have the time, energy, and skills to create their own wedding invitations.  Therefore, I strive to make a line of invitations (and custom invitations) for all couples that have a personal vision, a unique style, and feel that most of the invitations they have viewed online or in stores are “just not right for us!”

Meg Keen of A Practical Wedding sums this up well by saying:

  • Weddings can be laid back, and fun. No really.
  • Your wedding should be about celebration and joy, not about a bunch of made up “shoulds.

Morning Glory invitation

Today is my mother’s birthday, so I am going to go spend the day with her.  As for work this morning, I just posted a pretty new design on Etsy, inspired by the morning glory flower.  I used to have these flowers growing wild behind my apartment in Jersey City.  See the design here:  http://www.etsy.com/listing/79492766/morning-glory-floral-wedding-invitation

Saving Trees and Energy with Invitation Designs

I use Neenah paper for my invitation designs.   Neenah has a neat calculator that shows your environmental savings for the amount of paper you use.  For approximately 250 invitations, I save:

40 LBS of wood, which is equivalent to < 1 trees that supply enough oxygen for < 1 people annually.
59 Gallons of water, which is enough water to for 3 eight minute showers .
40,547 BTUs of energy, which is enough energy to power the average household for < 1 days.
4 LBS of solid waste, which would fill < 1 garbage cans.
12 LBS of emissions, which is the amount of carbon consumed by < 1 tree seedlings grown for 10 years .

Awesome!

Theater themed wedding, Fort Collins Colorado

I designed the stationary wedding decor for my good friend Kate O’Donnell Diaz, who is also a wonderful wedding planner for Green Apple Weddings http://www.greenappleweddings.com/.  Kate and Brian met in the theater in Manhattan, and wanted to incorporate this theme into their wedding.  I was so happy to work with a couple that was so open to creativity!  They knew their theme, and they knew their color choices (red, orange, bright pink) and were a pleasure to work with.  You can see what I designed for them in the photography blog of Jennifer Schumacher:  http://www.jenniferschumacherphotography.com/blog/2011/07/colorado-theater-wedding-in-fort-collins/

Here is a snapshot of the escort cards I designed for Kate and Brian.  Go to Jennifer’s blog to see more!

New Printer, New Invitation Samples

I am excited I have found a new printer to work with in Spartanburg, SC!  They are called Action Printing Inc.  http://www.actionprintinginc.net

I will be picking up some new invitation samples from them tomorrow and will show more images then!

In the meantime, here is an invitation I designed for Kate O’Donnell Diaz.  She and her husband, Brian, are theater lovers and wanted a theater themed invitation.  They also wanted it to look like a ticket and have the RSVP card attached.  Guests can tear off the RSVP card and save the invitation.  Everyone was very happy with the results!  Kate is a wedding planner and owner of Green Apple Weddings and Events:  http://www.greenappleweddings.com/
