Laser cut wedding invitations are a hot trend in 2016. Here at Sofia Invitations, we have been designing and making laser cut invitations for 3 years. We have learned many things about this market, and hope to give you some advice for your consideration when purchasing a laser cut invitation (or any stationery items that are of value)
Let’s talk about “Made in America” products:
WHY SHOULD “MADE IN AMERICA” MATTER TO YOU?
YOUR WEDDING DAY:
Let’s start off by acknowledging that your wedding day is a very important day to you. You may have been thinking about this day for years, and possibly planning it for over one year. And you probably realize that many things could go wrong with your wedding day, some of which you may take with a grain of salt (my wedding cake turned out awful, but we made a good laugh out of it).
Keeping this in mind, I do not recommend gambling on purchasing wedding invitations or other paper goods (such as laser cut favor boxes for example) from a country that does not speak your native language. You never know what could go wrong with communication. You want to be sure you will receive your product on time, and you will get what you ordered!

I believe the best, most creative, top notch designs and craftsmanship will always be from our wonderful country, America. We have the best designs schools here, and I am proud to say I graduated from one of them….Rhode Island School of Design

FOREIGN PRODUCTS ON ETSY:
Etsy has MANY sellers that are not producing their products in America. Do not be fooled by low prices. Do your homework, and make sure you know where your invitations or other items are being made before you buy them.

This invitation features a beautiful tree laser cut into kraft card stock, with your names cut out at the bottom. The interior invitation is engraved on maple wood veneer, but you can also save on costs by ordering a paper card stock invitation for the inside. The raffia ribbon can be in any color to match your wedding. This invitation is perfect for a rustic, vintage inspired, yet up-scale affair. We have many people approach us to make custom laser cut items (especially wedding invitations and stationery products such as belly bands). We have found that many people are not aware of the costs associated with laser cut products. In the hopes of educating our customers, here is a brief breakdown of how we price laser cut products:
1) The cost of a laser is very high. Companies either lease or purchase their laser, and sometimes with a loan. Imagine the technology that goes into a laser! This is not a simple machine with a knife inside….it’s a laser! Some lasers are comparable to the cost of a car.
2) The cost of electricity to run a machine can be high.
3) The time it takes to cut or engrave a design with a laser varies greatly depending on the amount of detail in the design, the size of the design, and the type of material that is being used. Time is money.
4) The cost of materials used is always factored into the price (you can imagine that certain types of paper are more expensive than others, such as metallic papers are more expensive than plain white papers).
All of these factors determine the final cost of cutting and/or engraving items on our laser. We try to keep our prices low as compared to our competitors in the United States, and we feel if you did your research you would find this to be true.
Therefore, based on the above information, sometimes laser cutting/engraving may cost even more than other fancy printing methods (like letterpress).
